When traveling around Europe I had to visit Belgium. The chocolate and beer were fine but the main purpose was to visit the birthplace of two Hollywood stars. One of them is Audrey Hepburn born May 4th, 1929 at 48 Rue Keyenveld. Audrey spent the first five years of her life here until her family left Belgium. The Belgian actress and philanthropist was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the 50s and 60s. Strange enough many cinema fans believe that this iconic movie star was either British or American. Her father was of British-Irish decent and her mother was Dutch.
The building is located very close to Louise and to Place de Stephanie.A golden plaque next to the door commemorates the actress with the following words: ‘Cercle d’histoire locale d’Ixelles. Ici naquit le 4 Mai 1929 la comedienne Audrey Hepburn. ‘ (Ixelles Historical Society. The actress Audrey Hepburn was born in this house on May 4th, 1929.
