The Battle of Uhud is the second most essential battle in Islamic history. The Uhud War took place in the valley of Mount Uhud near Madinah, Saudi Arabia. The Battle of Uhud was a military conflict between the early Muslims and the Quraysh tribe that took place on March 23, 625 AD. According to the Islamic calendar, it was fought on the 3rd Shawwal 3 AH.

Hiking up the Uhud Mountain I came across two significant sites of worship and compassion in Islam culture. These two caves hold a rich history of the life of the Prophet Muhammad. Biographical books mention that the Prophet prayed in this place after the end of the Uhud battle. Its building was destroyed over the centuries, and only a small part of it remained. It is in the shape of a rectangle and is approximately six meters long, four meters wide, 2 meters high, and one meter thick. Stone and plaster were used in its construction. It underwent several restorations, the most recent of which was during the Saudi era, when it was restored during the reign of King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

This place is where Prophet Muhammad hid after the Battle of Uhud. He retreated to this cave during the Battle of Uhud and suffered some injuries. The cave inside is believed to have been covered with Muhammad’s blood. The historical significance, breathtaking views, and serene atmosphere made it an unforgettable visit. You can follow my hike up to the Cave here.

At the foot of the mountain, I went past the archeological site with the rock depicting old inscriptions of Quaran verses.

Route was serpentine. The road was quite wide, paved with gravel and pebbles. Keeping myself hydrated and admiring astonishing views. On my way down I was approached by security guards inquiring about my well-being and offered a bottle of water.

Much exposure to the sun and the few moments I could hide from it in the caves. These must have a separate chapter in the early history of the Arabian Peninsula. Eerie experience.

The Battle of Uhud is a significant chapter in early Islamic history. Mount Uhud is currently one of the most famous mountains in the Arabian Peninsula. Because of its Islamic past, it attracts numerous visitors. Muslims visit the battlefield of Uhud to witness the historical legacy, the graveyards of the soldiers, and the picturesque terrain of Mount Uhud.
